The course is divided into 4 teaching units:
- Environmental Economics: general introduction to the subject and focus on the issues of environmental goods and services valuation, cost/benefit analysis, and decision-making strategies
- Empirical methods for environmental economics: statistical methods for environmental assessment analyses (e.g. questionnaires, multi-criteria, choice experiment)
- Environmental accounting: general framework and the case of Marine Protected Areas: introduction to the issues of environmental and ecosystem accounting based on the latest European guidelines. Case study on marine areas.
- Systemic ecology and computer science: new frontiers for economic ecology: the fundamentals of systemic ecology and how to use computer ecology tools to display and analyse information will be introduced
The course includes lectures, in-depth seminars and workshops in which group projects on the accounting of marine protected areas will be carried out.
