Environmental accounting is one of the main tools of the European Union for designing and monitoring environmental policies. The Jean Monnet module Environmental Valuation and Accounting (EVA, project 2019-1837)  aims to provide students with cutting-edge knowledge and tools on economic and ecological accounting and environmental assessment using the strategies, political initiatives and standards established by the European Union as their main reference.

The course is structured in 4 teaching units and an equal number of seminars held by selected professionals who integrate the theoretical concepts learned with application examples concerning the policies, strategies and methodologies existing in Europe. The Module is designed for graduate students in life sciences, earth and environment, economics and selected professionals who work in relevant institutions.

An innovative feature of the module is the promotion of multidisciplinarity: the four main classes cover a wide range of topics ranging from economics to accounting, ecology and quantitative methods. The joint scientific effort will provide different perspectives on environmental assessment in line with what is required on the labor market by figures of environmental experts.

The project is based on the consolidated collaboration between the Department of Economics (DIEC) and the Department of Life, Earth and Environment Sciences (DISTAV) of the University of Genoa, which have been collaborating on various projects concerning biodiversity and environmental accounting.

Participants will receive a certificate of participation. Unige students will be able to obtain 3 or 6 CFU (based on the credits of their choice) if they participate, respectively, in at least 24 hours (frontal lessons) or 48 hours (frontal lessons + 2 seminars). To obtain the CFU it will be necessary to pass a test.
